From television to fashion to the job of an influencer, Jill has managed to make a place for herself amongst her followers...
She agreed to welcome us in her home to answer our questions.
1. How would you describe the style of your interior?
When I bought the house, the watchword was “English cottage”. I wanted to preserve the charm of the house and not make it too modern! Amongst other things, we kept some of the floors so that the house could keep its soul.
2. Did you search for long before you found the perfect home? Was the desire to renovate there from the beginning of your search?
After the first lockdown, we visited three houses before stumbling upon this one which was love at first sight!
I'm not a fan of new modern homes, so we had two options. The first was to have a house built in an old-fashioned style. But in terms of budget, very high prices are quickly reached when some things are a must such as mouldings, a certain height under the ceiling, etc. So we chose the second alternative, which was to renovate.
3. What are your influences when it comes to decorating?
I was very inspired by the English cottages, but also by Laura Ashley. I also used Pinterest to find other sources of inspiration in home design.
4. Did you have any special wishes for the layout of your interior? Non-negotiable desires?
The parental suite was very important to us. We are a blended family… It was paramount to have a space where we could meet just us two. But it was also important that everyone could have their own living space for the well-being of our family.
5. Your children's rooms reflect very different worlds that seem to fit perfectly with each of their personalities. How did you do it? Had they given their opinion in terms of colours, style, etc.?
For the boys' room, they let me choose.
For Bella, it was also me who made most decisions because as a teenager, she wanted a room in the "euphoria" mood (the Netflix series) with LEDs, etc. The compromise was to create a more girly room to which she added her personal touch.
6. Which room do you feel best in? Why?
We love spending time in the TV lounge where we meet the children; we turn the sofa into a bed, we grab duvets, and we watch movies together... It's really the room in which we like to spend our family time.
7. Your favourite decorative element?
Without hesitation, the chandelier that my dad made for our bedroom. I had asked him for something very simple and he made us a masterpiece. It's a unique piece that took him months to make! He poured his heart and soul into it and gave everything he had.
8. Do you have any particular interior design desires for this new year?
There will be more outdoor planning this year... We would like to work on the garden. We want to give life to a small English garden, a little wild, with lots of flowers to support biodiversity to the max.
We would also like to repaint the back facade, which is less attractive than the one at the front of the house.
9. Let’s talk colours! I see that you have chosen very distinct tones in each of your rooms; how did you make those decisions? Did you call a specialist or did you let your feelings guide you in deciding? How did you proceed?
I was fortunate to be able to work with an interior designer who helped us find the right colours for each of our rooms based on their brightness and location.
Our approach was to keep a certain uniformity throughout the house. For example, the shade in our lobby is the same as in our master suite. We started with a light colour that we applied throughout the house. We then added different bits of colour in each of the rooms to give them character. We also wanted to highlight the fireplaces to make the rooms livelier. To do this, we decided to associate a specific colour to the body of our different chimneys.
10. We must ask: what is your favourite colour in the new Peintagone colour chart?
I really like this new edition! There are pastel shades as well as brighter colours. I also see shades that I have here at home... I really like the Baby Boom (PE189), Relax (PE046) (which I have here), Monday (PE043) and Antwerp (PE103) shades. The green of Sweet Garden (PE064) is very beautiful!
